The Outreach Committee facilitates Skyridge's wider justice, peacemaking and nonviolence work. Committee members collaborate with KNOW (Kalamazoo Nonviolent Opponents of War), coordinate a violent toy public witness and find ways to support conscientious objection efforts. In addition, the
Outreach Committee leads the congregation in helping meet local and international needs. The committee encourages individuals and families to become involved in annual community events such as the CROP Walk, the Walk for the Homeless and the CARES AIDS
Walk. Church participants are also encouraged to be involved in local organizations such as Habitat for
Humanity, Warm Kids, Ministry with Community and Loaves & Fishes. The committee also involves the congregation in a number of ongoing projects including:
 | Hunger Relief Efforts
Through the Five Cent Club people are encouraged to put aside 5 cents per meal, which is collected the first Sunday of every month. This money is sent to the Church of the Brethren Global Hunger Project which provides relief for those in famine stricken areas. Non-perishable food items and personal need items (small containers of shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.) are collected and delivered monthly to Loaves & Fishes, a local food
bank. |
 | Christmas Card Board
Rather than send Christmas cards to people we see at church each week, the Christmas card board provides a way for families and individuals to post a single holiday greeting addressed to the entire congregation. The money
one saves from not buying cards and stamps for the entire congregation is then donated to a special project.
The Outreach Committee donates the money to a chosen organization such as Warm Kids, a program that provides hats, mittens and coats to children in the
area. |
 | Special Offerings
A number of special offerings are collected each year, including One Great Hour of Sharing, Church World Service
Blanket Sunday, and collections of funds and materials to help in crisis situations. |
 | Ezekiel Fund The Ezekial Fund provides some emergency financial assitance to members or attendees in need. It is funded by members of the church.
|
 | Loaves & Fishes
Food donations are collected the first Sunday of even-numbered months. A specific food item is designated as the collection item for each month (i.e. peanut butter, tuna fish, soup, etc.) |
